I am Poem

I am a smart dancer
I wonder how big the universe is
I hear the last song I heard on the radio
I see ballet dancers dancing around me
I want a trip to Hawaii
I am a smart dancer
I pretend I can fly
I feel that bigfoot is nice
I touch rainbows
I worry about earthquakes
I cry over family members death
I am a smart dancer
I understand the earth is round
I say the happier the better
I dream about being a billionaire
I try to get a good grade
I hope to go to BYU'
I am a smart dancer

Christmas Break

On Christmas Eve I went to my grandmas house to have a big Christmas dinner. I stuffed myself with delicious funeral potatoes and ham and rolls! I played pool with my cousin, watched a movie with my aunt and did fun activities with the rest of the family. Then we went home and me and my little sister had to go to bed.
My little sister, Nicole, came and slept in my room so that there would be someone with her to keep her from going up stairs where "Santa" would be setting up. It was pretty hard to sleep that night because Nicole is a very wild sleeper. I would wake up with her legs all over me and her arms sprawled across my face. She would kick me and slap me and while I layed there in pain she slept soundly and peacefully. In the morning I had to keep her in my room for a while and she was bouncing off the walls with excitement. She wanted to see her presents so bad, so when I could finally let her out she sprung out and leaped up the stairs. She got a cool little camera from Santa and I got a camera to. I also got boots and a sweater and Nicole got a bunch of crafty stuff. It was pretty fun to watch her open all the presents and leap for joy. I had a fun and enjoyable Christmas!

Empathy

They all lack empathy for each other in The Giver because everyone is supposed to be the same. If you can't experience love, pain, or sadness then you can't have empathy for someone who is. You can't "put yourself in someone else's shoes"if you don't know what it is.

An example from the book is when Jonas's father is releasing the twin baby. When he injects the medicine into the babies forehead, it wriggles and cries in pain. His father says to the baby that he knows it hurts and that it will soon be over with. But his father doesn't really know what it feels like.

Jonas starts to empathize for others because he can experience all of the feelings and emotions. He can feel the pain of people in war, all the way to the love of a family spending Christmas together. He knows more than all the other people. Hopefully one day their community will change and they will be able to feel empathy for eachother.

Family Tradition

My family has lots of traditions, but my favorite is when my extended family and I go on vacation together. Every year we always go to Arizona to my Great Grandpa D.'s farm. We have gone there ever since I can remember and each year brings a hand full of memories. There are horses, chickens, peacocks, and all types of bugs and desert creatures.

We start the trip by making a 16 hour drive to the farm. And then, after 16 painful and squished hours, we arrive at the farm and everyone gets out of the car and goes inside Aunt Janice's house. There are three houses on the farm, one is Aunt Janice's house (she is Grandpa D.'s daughter) which is blue, one is the guest house which is white, and the other is Sara's house (she is Janice's daughter) which is yellow. Grandpa D. lives with Janice so we all go in and say 'hi' to everyone. After our greetings are over, the children are off! They are running around finding the chickens, chasing peacocks, pretending to be cowboys/girls, and so much more. We ride the horses, drive the golf cart, get the chicken eggs, make forts and my list can go on forever.

After a week of adventures, we have to say good bye and take another 16 hours to drive back home. Each year we leave with more memories and tales to tell of the times we had. Even now at my age I love to go every year and be adventurous and use my imagination. I hope my family never ends this tradition because I always have the time of my life!

Bruiser!

I have two dogs. One of them is named Bruiser. He is a shih tzu, about five years old, and he is so cute! He has an under bite which makes him look kind of scary and his name kind of helps with that, but he really wouldn't hurt a fly! He is so sweet! He follows me around all day and is always making me laugh. He is constantly running around when he has the chance because he has so much energy. Bruiser's favorite toy is a green stuffed snake which is pretty much torn apart from him.

We have a little gate in our kitchen which keeps our dogs from getting out of their special area. Bruiser has recently discovered how to climp over that gate and it has become a big habbit of his. We have added some alterations to the fence, but he still manages to climb over. There is a stool infront of the gate. One time Bruiser decided to try to climb out again. He had to climb through the stool, which was pretty small so he couldn't get through. I came into the room later to find him stuck between the legs of the stool, and it took a while to get him out. I think he has learned not to climb over that fence anymore!
